Debriefing can be described as a structured episode during and/or after a learning activity, in which participants reflect on and share their experience with fellow participants, with the purpose of transforming it into learning. During my talk, I will attempt to show how crucial debriefing is for any learning experience. This includes field trips, research, internships and simulation/games. Debriefing is particularly important for transforming learning experiences that tend to generate difficult emotions, for example, a difficult internship, a problematic field trip, simulation/games about the social and psychological dimensions of climate change. In my talk, I will touch on things like debriefing structure, learner independence, preparation, sequence.
