Povod institute for culture and development of international relations in culture, is a nongovernmental organization that was established in 2009 by young people in the city of Ptuj in Slovenia. Povod was established due to the need of interculturalism for social development and civic engagement in Ptuj and other cities in Slovenia. Our work established national and transnational networks of people and institutions who work with migration, integration, interculturalism and diversity as essential elements toward social, political and economic development. We started as a cultural institution, using art and culture and its based educational tools toward intercultural dialogue and social development. We organized street festivals for ten years. It was the biggest art events in the region, promoting art, culture, animation and street animation as tools of social inclusion and development. We are working in the field of international development cooperation and also representing Slovenia and Slovenian NGOs on a global level. We are in the board of the national platform for Non-Governmental Organizations and Humanitarian organizations in Slovenia. We are active in the national coalition for refugee support in Slovenia.
We work in the field of international development cooperation in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Asia with inter-cultural and inter religious programs. Most of the programs are focused toward intercultural dialogue and learning. Other programs toward empowerment of civil society organizations to take self-initiatives including vocational trainings. Currently we are coordinating cross-sectoral initiatives for Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Slovenia to monitor its implementation inside the country, to support advocacy activities of civil society and to promote the implementation of the SDGs on all levels of social activities.
One of the current initiatives we are working on is the “Faces of Migration” campaign in Slovenia. It is part of the Development Education and Awareness Raising program. We work with and for asylum seekers, refugees, locals and migrants in Slovenia. We follow gender mainstreaming in research, education and work related to migration in Slovenia and the EU. We are the national coordinator of GCAP Slovenia. Our activities consist of local actions on national level and advocacy as well as international projects globally. The stakeholders in our activities are: Policy makers, civil society organizations, and the society with its diversity.
